The Aconquija Protected Landscape (PPA) is a joint initiative between the ProYungas Foundation and the Directorate of Flora, Wildlife, and Soils of Tucumán, aimed at ensuring the conservation and sustainable development of one of the province’s most strategic territories.

With more than 300,000 hectares, the PPA is not only the source of 60% of the water that supplies Tucumán but also a key area for carbon capture, climate regulation, and the conservation of essential ecosystem services. Its biodiversity includes vulnerable species and unique ecosystems located on the slopes and summits of the Aconquija Mountains, a region of great environmental, cultural, and productive value.

The main objective of the project is to incorporate new conservation areas and promote integrated, sustainable, and coordinated management between public and private sectors.

Durante 2024 se llevaron a cabo reuniones de trabajo con representantes de más de 11 organizaciones, enfocadas en tres grandes líneas de acción:

  • Environmental education: strategies were developed to raise awareness within the local community, with special emphasis on rural teachers, who play a key role in promoting landscape conservation from the classroom.
  • Sustainable tourism: progress was made in planning joint activities aimed at improving tourism infrastructure and positioning Aconquija as a nature destination with a sustainable approach.
  • Management and internal communication: actions were coordinated to improve communication channels and strengthen collaboration among the organizations that are part of the project.

The Aconquija Protected Landscape represents a collective commitment to a development model that balances production, conservation, and well-being for local communities, reaffirming the importance of protecting essential resources today for the future
